Site Update 8/2/05

The site has been up now for about 1½ months. It's hard to believe it, but I'm still getting questions about what happened to the mailing lists on Yahoo Groups and people wondering why they can't post to the lists. That certainly shows me that some people never read the email from the lists they subscribe to!
I thought I would provide some log stats you might find interesting.
| Site Statistics: | ||||||
| Month | Unique Visitors | RSS Feed | Busiest Day | Busiest Hour | Page hits | Traffic |
| Jun-05 | 368 | 283 | Thursday | 15:00 GMT | n/a | n/a |
| Jul-05 | 6847 | 5965 | Friday | 00:00 GMT | 143373 | 1.03 GB |
It appears we are growing, just going to take time. It would help if you each began to spread the word that we have moved and where we are located now.
Site Additions:
- Tried to implement an Instant message module, but it appears not ready for prime-time quite yet. More on that as it progresses (if it does at all). It never knew when people were online!
- I'm getting close to implementing a feed between the mailing list and a forum on the website. It will allow forum users to read and participate (post) with the current mailing list without being a member of the list. An added bonus will be to use the website's search on mailing list posts as well as website content. This particular module has a lot of capability so it may be possible to actually create a way for registered users to post to the forum areas with email. It would only allow posting unless I tie a mailing list onto it. I have to give this some thought as I can see where it could really be a mess to use and maintain. One of my concerns is that it strip email addresses for privacy and anti-spam purposes.
- I've implemented more advertising. That's what will be supporting this site from here on out. I'm trying to avoid those flashy ones that move as they drive me nuts. It also limits the selection of ads that can be put here. I'll have to see how successful this becomes. If you have comments, suggestions or requests, please use the 'contact us' form on the top of the page.
- Changed the search module to the Google search. We'll see how that works out. I had several complaints about the built-in search module.
I'm working with an attorney on a privacy statement for the site. I'll post it when it becomes available. Any attorney on the list should contact me privately if they have statements/issues to bring up or think should be included.
Well, that's pretty much all the news that's fit to print. Contrary to the belief of some users on here, I actually sleep 7 to 9 hours a day and even manage the occasional nap! (grin)

Impressive numbers
143373 hits, allowing for all the members and regulars, is very impressive.
If you analyse this by taking the current membership numbers, multiplying them by an average of two hits per day from each over a one-month period, the total should leave a very substantial number of guests.
Yes, you will get a number of idiots who will not read the moved messages on the voice groups sites, but that is to be expected.
You have had the site up and running for over seven weeks from the first non Skip contributions, and I think the response has been phenomenal.

Delays
It appears there will be a delay of unknown length getting the interface between email and forums working. It appears the modules need a bit more work. I'm working with the module's author to get this done.
As to the privacy statement, my attorney doesn't think I really need one. I want one so I'll have to come up with it on my own and have him approve it.
I've had a lot of personal responsibilites to take care of lately so not much time to do what I'd like to be doing on here. Soon.
