Macro Repository status

admin's picture

As you may be aware, I've been researching and preparing to place a general speech recognition oriented macro repository on this site.

I've had some viewing this with trepidation. Their fear is that with an easily accessible repository, the 'macro world' will become an unstructured nightmare with duplications of effort and many scripting conflicts causing untold and unforseen problems.

I'd like to hear your thoughts on this before I implement the repository. I do not intend it as a harmful resource, on the contrary I want it to be a learning and sharing resource for all to move forward and more efficiently use their speech recognition software.

What are your thoughts?

I vote yes!

I think this would be a valuable resource. It might be safest to have people provide their code as text files, rather than files that could be directly imported into a Dragon mycmds.dat file, or files that could be used directly in Vocola or Natlink.

My first thought was to go

My first thought was to go with text just put into a normal forum type post.

The problem may be how many people would know what to do with that text?

Perhaps we need a short text tutorial on each of the various programs explaining what has to be done to use the macro?

I was thinking of binary downloads, but that really scares me as I have no way of virus checking each and every one. I don't want to corrupt anyone's system with a macro file either. So perhaps a text format is all that should be allowed.

Just more thoughts is all.

I agree with Matt: text

I agree with Matt: text files are best. Anyone fooling around with scripts had better know what to do with them. Also, when you have compiled files, you can't really discuss, learn from and modify the scripts, which is useful for someone who wants to learn the skills or expand his/her current level.

It's a yes for me!

As this site is now a well known ressource for speech recognition, I think this would be a nice feature.

IMHO, Efforts are duplicated if everyone does its own scripts without being able to share with others.
