Error with DNS 9
Submitted by OccupationalThe... on Wed, 08/20/2008 - 17:18.
I have tried numerous times installing DNS9 and I get the same result:
I run disk 1 no problem, then I run disk 2 no problem, then I get this message
"Authentication Data -104727- was not properly read or written Error -1" then I get this one right after "Could not find registration file C:/programs/Nuance/NaturallySpeaking9/Program/Register.ini"
I have even followed the steps at the link below:
http://support.lhsl.com/databases/dragon/webdisc.n...
I am running windows XP Professonal 2002 SP 2 on a Dell XPS 600 intel Pentium 3.0 GHz with 2.0 GB of RAM. Any help would be great!

Have you tried it with 9.5
Have you tried it with 9.5 patch available from Nuance? I may be wrong, but believe it's a full software install. Maybe it would work?
I think I would uninstall
I think I would uninstall DNS 9 in add/remove programs, then run the appropriate remover program. They are listed at: http://www.speechcomputing.com/dnsremovers
Making a rash assumption that your DNS 9 is registered at Nuance, I would then go to http://www.speechcomputing.com/95update and get the appropriate 9.5 version update. (They are FULL program downloads so do it on Broadband) Then I would install it. The same activation code should work that you have on your CD's.
Nuance fixed a lot of things besides Vista compatibility in the 9.5 upgrade set.
I followed everything you
I followed everything you guys said and I still end up with the same messages, but this time I get 77576 as my Authentication error number, which I think is irrelevant.
Does it give any clue what
Does it give any clue what that error number is for?
Nope all it says is
Nope all it says is this
"Authentication Data -77576- was not properly read or written Error -1" then I have to click "ok"

Having never seen this error, I went to Nuance and looked this up in their forum search using 'authentication' as the term. It's actually been mentioned on there a lot. All with different error numbers but all mention register.ini as you initially did.
I did notice that most of them were on a network and all of them have Dell computers of various models. The common response was to copy the two cd's into a single folder on the desktop then run setup.exe from within that folder. I think you've tried this haven't you?
The second common thing was that the DNS file registration process was being closed before it was done. It was suggested that ALL programs, in particular anti-virus/spyware programs be shut down prior to installation.
Maybe someone else will have an idea on this... I know I'm about out of them!
You are right I did try
You are right I did try copying both CDs onto the computer and then installing it.
Yes my computer is on a network and I also think you are right about the registry closing before the instalation is complete. I am on a hospital computer, but I do have admin rights, and I will check that there aren't any other anti-virus/spyware programs running outside of my knowledge. Thank you for your help!! I will let you know how I make out with this!
Uninstall & Reinstall
We think you should run DNS9.5
Remover to remove your partial installation and then try installing again
either from the CDs or consider downloading a full copy of NaturallySpeaking Download from the
previous link. This should make it easier to install DNS on your computer. Of
course another option would be to forget about Ver. 9 and just upgrade to DNS
10.
