I wonder...

As we all have been told, Nuance has limited Dragon NaturallySpeaking version 10 Professional edition so that it will no longer work in medical records programs. Users must now purchase the Medical edition (or figure out a Pro based workaround/kludge) if they intend to use Dragon for input to the records programs.
I was thinking about this today and was wondering if they really feel they are losing so much income from the medical community they have to resort to this? As that thought went firing across both of my synapses, I wondered if they will also disable the ability for people to use Natlink and it's programs (Vocola/Unimacro) or other add-ons (Knowbrainer/VoicePower) in the lesser editions of the programs.
If so, it seems to me that prudent people would start looking very differently at the Microsoft Vista system and it's built-in S/R. This could really be a good point for those that are able (programmers) to make a killing financially by adding those same abilities into the Vista S/R system. The money the end user could save could be enormous if the abilities are the same.
Well, that's my thought for the day so I'll go rest now...
All this thinking wears me out!

Great thinking, except that
Great thinking, except that you you have now put ideas into the financial gurus of Nuance as to how to increase their finances as long as DNS prevails
Having watched the WSR messages on ms-speech group, it looks as though there is still a way to go before WSR matches either ViaVoice for user friendliness, or DNS. In any case, whither WSR with Windows 7 ?
As you all know, I still champion VV, as do others on this group, as being the easiest to use for your average non-tech user
There is an opening for a tech medical user to create a medical dictionary of words, which can be then disseminated (at reasonable cost?), and then trained in by using document analysis. The same would apply to those that require legal terminology.
In relation to legal terminology, I have never had a problem in VV with dictating citations of UK and Irish cases. However I certainly would have a problem with US citations, simply because I cannot follow them due to their complexity.
Certainly one of the problems that one has with the pronunciation of unusual names, such as Allahbachani, which I have added to my dictionary, but can never pronounce correctly resulting in rubbish coming up
I could add a dictation macro for this sort of name, such as "the lunatic that runs Iran and thinks he owns the world"
, but since it is unlikely that I will use the name in the near future, and hopefully he will become politically extinct in the same very near future, I won't bother!

eMicrophones has developed a WSRToolkit that accomplishes much of the missing features. For example:
It is available as a free download good until August 31st. CLICK HERE to download. It appears it is going to be outrageously priced between $15-$20.00.

I wonder how long it will take the DNS first patch to block what Reddy is doing

Marty,
That is an excellent service for WSR users.
However the average punter who tries to use WSR would be totally unaware of the WSRToolkit without having seen it on one of the WSR orientated websites.
Clearly you should be selling the toolkit at enormous cost to Microsoft to promote with the benefit to MM
I suspect that Rob Chambers and Charles Oppermann have to battle with the powers that be to get anything through on the WSR front.

The word will eventually get out. Maybe KnowBrainer with the world's most popular SR forum (Sic) might want to get the word out.
