SAPI support in Dragon 10?
Submitted by ryokanNHC on Thu, 08/07/2008 - 19:09.
Does the new version support SAPI 5.1/5.3? and/or 64bit Windows?
Its been rumored for this release, but I think I already know the answer for these questions based on perusal of the Dragon site. (no) Here's to hoping I am incorrect.

According to Larry Allen's review (http://www.pcspeak.com/release10.shtml), DNS 10 does not work in 64bit OSes but will run fine on 64bit CPUs running a 32bit OS.
I don't know about SAPI 5.x, but I doubt it since those are M$' variants geared to their own product whereas SAPI 4.x is basically Dragon's product (with M$' participation).
BTW, why would the specific SAPI make a difference to most users?

I read the review earlier and did not see the reference to 64/32 bit installations. Went back and checked, still can't see it. Perhaps its my eyesight?
SAPI 5.X has little relevance to most users, but it does to me. Its presence would save me (a bunch of time and money) from redeveloping interfaces to SAPI4 that I already have in SAPI5.

Thanks Bruce,
With the current 2GB requirement on memory, I imagine they are going to have to bite the bullet in Version 11 or they are liable to run out of addressable memory.

Nat,
DNS 10 still employs SAPI 4. There are good reasons for this and Nuance will eventually move to SAPI 5. According to my information, Nuance intends to release a 64-bit compatible version at sometime in the not-too-distant future.
