Punctuation problem

When I put Dragon NaturallySpeaking version 9 preferred on my new laptop and I am dictating and give the command period to end a sentence, it is inserting the full word instead of the.
I should know how to change that but I have a brain cramp.
Help please.

Our
1st recommendation would be to close and re-launch NaturallySpeaking. You might
even want to reboot your computer if you haven't done so. If the problem
persists, try correcting via one of your 2 correction options. If none of these
options work, post back and let us know if you are experiencing this problem all
or part of the time and will take it to the next level.
