Voice recognition while driving
I've developed an interest in voice recognition software since being introduced to the website jott.com.
When I connect to jott.com via a bluetooth headset (Jawbone - Aliph) the speech recognition is surprisingly good. This allows me to capture many thoughts, ideas, etc while on the road.
Now I'm interested in using DNS via a dictaphone while away form my computer. Several questions-
Does anyone have experience with dictaphone use and DNS 9.5? How accurate is this system?
How much would accuracy suffer if dictation is performed with average road noise in the background?
Is there a way to link a Jawbone bluetooth headset with a dictaphone?
Thanks for any insight!

DS-5000 Versus the Phillips 9600
We concur with Martin to the point that you should be using a
digital recorder rather than attempting to dictate directly to
NaturallySpeaking on a notebook or tablet computer in your car. However, noise cancellation
isn't as big a problem as you might think because when you use a digital
recorder properly, on the close
microphone setting, most digital recorders are very noise canceling. Although
we also recommend using an external microphone such as the KnowBrainer
Hands-free microphone or the ME52W
combo lapel/snubnose microphone (which we include a choice of free with your
recorder) we only make this recommendation so that you won't have to hold your
recorder in your hand while driving. A top-of-the-line noise canceling
microphone isn't necessary for noise cancellation purposes because the digital
recorder handles noise exceptionally well on its own (when used properly).
Although the theBoom
“V4” microphone works very well with these digital recorders we don't
recommend it because the gel plug literally blocks your ear canal and it's not
safe to drive a car with one ear blocked. For that matter, it isn't really safe
to drive a car while dictating but we figure that goes without saying.
Besides including a choice between 2 microphones we additionally include our KnowBrainer
Digital Recorder Training Guide to get you up and running we sell the Philips
9600 and the Olympus DS-5000.
These 2 recorders are now the only recorders we recommend for use with
NaturallySpeaking. We should also mention that the price is exactly the same
between these 2 units (from every vendor because they are MAP priced) but in
our opinion, the DS-5000 is clearly the first-place winner. If you do decide to
purchase a digital recorder you might want to check out our DS-5000
vs Philips 9600 Review and you might additionally want to purchase from a
certified Nuance vendor who can offer you a 2nd layer of NaturallySpeaking
Technical Support.

Voice recognition while driving
Hang on fellas and take a look at the title of this post. Concentrating on anything other than the road ahead when driving is totally inexcusable and very dangerous.
Forget it and drive safely both for yourself and for other road users.

First of all it is
First of all it is recommended you become proficient at Speech Recognition using a desktop or notebook computer. This is because talking to the computer is quite different than talking conversationally. It requires good enunciation and pacing. After my sign off are some new user tips to achieve high accuracy with Dragon NaturallySpeaking very quickly.
When should have become accustomed to Speech Recognition dictation on the computer, there are currently two equally good digital recorders with a high enough recording format to equal the accuracy of dictation directly to the computer. These are the Philips 9600 and the Olympus DS5000. We personally like the larger screen and better feel of the Philips.

Click Here and check out the Philips 9600 Combo $avers with the highly background noise canceling Sennheiser ME3 or theBoom earhook. Another good reason for wearing a headset in the car is it does not tie up one hand while holding the recorder.

There is no way I know of.

I have several suggestions to make your transition to Dragon NaturallySpeaking more fruitful:
1. Read, "Key Steps to High Speech Recognition Accuracy" at:
http://www.emicrophones.com/docDetails.asp?Documen...
2. Go to our Links/Articles page at:
http://www.emicrophones.com/articles/index.asp
Listen to the three sound files on How to Sound and How Not to Sound. Essentially, it may be continuous speech, but it is not conversational speech you need to master. Each word must be enunciated clearly. Speaking in phrases, helps the system because the system is listening not only for the sounds of words but comparing each word to words before and after for context clues.
3. http://www.emicrophones.com/faq_answer.asp?content...
The above link in our Dragon NaturallySpeaking FAQ or frequently asked questions section, tells you the proper way to create a new user profile including when to add your typical documents (not during the training phase).
4. When you begin to make corrections, make corrections within the context of at least one other word. This will improve the speech profile as relates to your particular style of speaking and will increase the probability that the word will be recognized correctly the next time you speak it.

Dictaphone? Are you referring to the PowerMike? If so, the accuracy is very good, but it's not the best.
How much would accuracy suffer if dictation is performed with average road noise in the background?
Very poorly. Any type of background noise, particularly road noise, will significantly interfere with accuracy. You can reduce the propensity for accuracy degradation by making sure that you run the Audio Setup Wizard in that environment. However, that's a rather difficult while you're driving. Otherwise, unless the microphone volume is adjusted for background noise, you will not get very good accuracy. Even so, it is very likely that your accuracy will suffer significantly anyway unless your microphone is extremely good at noise canceling.
Is there a way to link a jawbone Bluetooth headset with a Dictaphone?
That's a flat out NO. The bottom line is, forget about it.
