Speech wiki still under attack

Just to register that the speech wiki Natlink home page is still under attack. Yesterday, "list all versions" show that it was changed 76 times, so it seems a pretty concerted and probably automated effort. I have done a bit of checking (without visiting the actual sites) and most of them look as though they are porn, or even paedophilia related... it looks extremely nasty stuff. Is this something that goes on at other wiki sites, or is it something about this site that attracts it?

Spam to online forums can be

Spam to online forums can be pretty bad. I went through several different ways to handle it. I finally found what is probably the best an online forum can have. I won't say publicly what it is but it saved this forum only yesterday from 19 posts of a similar variety. These are usually some type of affiliate link they put on trying to get money if you go there and subscribe or buy whatever the site is selling.

It's an ongoing and daily war for most forum site owners. It seems that once you are found in the search engines, it's only a matter of time before the automated scripts get around to posting their links on your forum or even in the registration areas.

If you have a site and want to know what anti-spam I use here, email me by clicking above on admin then on the contact tab. Please include your website address in the email.

Another Possible Forum Spam Solution

I can't say what antispam system is in place on our forum but we never have any of the problems you are reporting and we typically see about a dozen legitimate new forum memberships per day. I'm not saying that we don't undergo system attacks as we received 19 over the weekend but none of them have gotten through and they're going to try extra hard on our forum because they try to use the forum as a key to get into the website to go after the credit card numbers (which don't even exist). Most of these attacks are coming from China at the moment. Feel free to contact me privately and I'll send you my webmaster contact information on the chance that he has something more efficient in place. We certainly never have to worry about proofreading postings and it sounds like you're going through a lot of extra trouble that may not be necessary.

We have vastly different systems in configuration. I think your webmaster told me the setup you have (or you did) quite a while ago. What would work for your system isn't feasible for this one.

It actually takes less work than you think for me to do all this. I spend maybe 4-5 minutes (if that) a day doing anti-spam items. Some are needed some aren't. The initial anti-spam is fully automated with me overriding in case of a false positive.

The rest of the time I just read to see what everyone says on here.

Thanks for the offer though.
